Goldylight Magazine

The Brand:

Goldylight Magazine is the only all-weddings, all-film magazine on the market. As wedding magazines become more sponsored, exclusive, and watered down with advertising, the founders wanted to create a cost-free community space for film wedding photography and the artists who create it.

The Project:

This was a full site project for the magazine as they launched in the beginning of 2024. We created a home page, an about page, a submissions page (the bulk of the site), a blog, and a contact page.

It was most important that the magazine felt open and welcoming, so we created an honest, heartfelt brand voice with a touch of wry humor. The clients we were targeting were other photographers who loved film, but felt burnt out and left behind by the industry.

The overall goal was to get these lovely photographers to submit, and submitting a wedding to a magazine is an intensive, usually low-reward process. So we built trust by creating points of emotional and intellectual connection throughout the site, like an inspiring quote by Henri Cartier Bresson on the home page, shared frustrations as film wedding photographers in the About page, and a note that yes, this magazine really is free, on the Submission page.

The Heart of It

The heart of Goldylight Magazine is its Submissions page. Since this is the desired action for Goldylight’s ideal clients, we built calls-to-action on every single page on the website to the Submissions portal.

The copy on the rest of the site was earnest, but the copy on the Submissions page had to bring those folks to dig through their weddings and create a submission. In other words, it had to drive home what every other part of the website copy had been teasing out: “We’re different from other mags, your work is different from others wedding photographers, and we’re happy you’re here with us”.

An emphasis on why Goldylight is different from other magazines, with film-language embellishments.

A cheeky little play on words. Goldylight? “Gold Standards”? Get it?
